Why Love God ?

To know Him deeply is to love Him inevitably.

Why Love God ?

Love is one of the most powerful forces in human experience — yet one of the hardest to define. We feel it deeply, but words often fail to capture its intensity. Even poets admit that when they try to write about love, the pen breaks under the weight of what the heart wants to express.

We show love not only through speech but through action: embracing those we care for, giving gifts, protecting our children, and expressing gratitude to those who nurtured us.

Much of human love is rooted in appreciation — we love those who have cared for us, supported us, or inspired us. Gratitude naturally blossoms into affection.

But sometimes we love people not because of what they’ve done for us, but because of who they are — their courage, generosity, or brilliance. Their very qualities draw our hearts toward them.

01

The Unmatched Love of God

Human love, however beautiful, is fragile. We can love someone who doesn’t love us back, or whose love fades with time. This can be painful and destabilising. But there is one love that is unlike any other: the love of God.

God wants us to seek His love, and that those who turn to Him are met with a love that is certain, constant, and pure. One of His names is AlWadūd — The Most Loving — the source of all love in creation.

God’s love is not based on need or deficiency. Unlike human beings, who love because it completes them or fulfils an emotional longing, God is entirely selfsufficient.

His love is a gift, not a transaction. It is the purest form of love because it comes from a Being who stands in no need from us.

This love brings inner peace, grounding, and spiritual fulfilment. The Qur’an states:

“Truly, in the remembrance of God do hearts find peace.” (The Qur’an, Chapter 13, Verse 28)

02

Walking the Path to Divine Love

Love is expressed through action.

If we love God, we naturally want to draw closer to Him — to know Him, remember Him, obey Him, and align our lives with His guidance. In Islam, worship is not limited to rituals; it includes every good action done sincerely for God’s sake: kindness to parents, charity, reflection, forgiveness, seeking knowledge, even smiling at others.

The Qur’an reminds us that the signs of God’s mercy, power, and generosity are everywhere — in the heavens, the earth, the cycles of nature, and the blessings we experience daily. These signs awaken gratitude, and gratitude deepens love.

God’s love is also reciprocal. The prophetic teaching eludes to, when a person remembers God, God remembers them; and when they take a step toward Him, He comes toward them with even greater closeness and mercy.

03

Why God Deserves Our Love

There are three compelling reasons to love and worship God wholeheartedly:

His Nature — God is perfect in His names and attributes. We admire human beings for limited qualities, yet God possesses every quality of greatness in its absolute form. He is worthy of awe, praise, and devotion simply because of who He is.

His Blessings — Every heartbeat, every breath, every joy, every relationship is a gift from Him. We could never thank Him enough for even a fraction of what He provides.

Our Dependency — We are entirely dependent on God for existence, sustenance, and success. Recognising this should fill the heart with humility and gratitude.

04

Meeting the One We Love

Life is short, and every soul will eventually meet its Creator.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that those who love God will meet Him with joy — and God will love to meet them in return.

The path to God’s love is clear: follow His guidance, walk the way of His prophets, and let nothing become more important in your heart than Him.
